10/22/2023 0 Comments Autumn 2023It has been a good year for our sheep, we weaned an average of 2.4 lambs per ewe. They have been grazed all summer , the grain for the ewes having been eliminated at turnout although although hay was still provided. Lambs were provided with creep feed of whole grain (a mix of oats and wheat) I was very pleased that the ewes with triplets were able to feed all their lambs, no bottles! What a relief! By mid September, we started feeding haylage to the ewes, which they rally enjoy. Grass is just not so palatable in the fall, although it has been much more plentiful this year because of the wet conditions. We are hoping to introduce the rams soon, but want to shear the ewes first. we are aiming for the first week of November for the ram's entry.
